Tiger Woods concluded his Masters journey on Sunday with a record he likely didn’t anticipate, exiting the course with a 16-over 304, marking his highest 72-hole score in a career spanning three decades. This surpassed his previous high of 302 at the Memorial in 2015, with his only other instance of failing to break 300 occurring two years ago at the Masters, where he posted rounds of 78-78 on the weekend, finishing at 301.

Despite the challenging score, Woods maintained a positive outlook, labeling it a “good week” and expressing his intention to focus on preparing for the upcoming majors, including the PGA Championship in May, the U.S. Open in June, and the British Open in July. Overall, he expressed contentment with his performance.

The crowd’s response underscored their unwavering support, erupting into cheers as the 48-year-old Woods executed a precise shot close to the hole on No. 18, securing a par. Clad in his signature Sunday red attire, Woods graciously acknowledged the crowd with a tip of his hat.

Woods, who has grappled with the aftermath of numerous surgeries impacting his body and limiting his PGA Tour appearances, found himself in the last place among the 60 players making the cut. Despite this, patrons eagerly gathered to witness the legendary figure who revolutionized the sport’s popularity, even amidst his transition from dominance at Augusta National.

Since his remarkable fifth victory at age 43 in 2019, Woods’ competitive presence at Augusta has waned, evident in his 38th-place finish in 2020 and subsequent withdrawal in 2023 due to injuries exacerbated by adverse weather conditions. Nonetheless, brief glimpses of his former brilliance surfaced this week, predominantly reliant on his deep understanding of the course.

Although Woods navigated the first two rounds admirably to secure a record 24th cut, the final stretch proved arduous, culminating in his worst major round ever with an 82 on Saturday. Reflecting on his experience, Woods acknowledged the comfort of returning to familiar grounds, albeit noting the inherent differences between simulation and on-course execution.

Completing the final 36 holes in 15 over, Woods concluded his 100th career round at the Masters with a 77 on Sunday. Notably, prior to his round, he appeared to receive swing tips from his 15-year-old son, Charlie, on the practice range, highlighting the enduring bond and generational exchange within the Woods family.
