Actress Sophia Bush has recently revealed her queer identity, marking a significant personal milestone following the dissolution of her brief marriage a year earlier.

The 41-year-old star of “One Tree Hill” delved into her romantic journey in a candid feature for Glamour magazine, sharing her reflections on the lead-up to her marriage with entrepreneur Grant Hughes in July 2022.

In her introspective narrative, Bush candidly admitted to grappling with pre-wedding jitters despite the grandeur of their celebratory weekend. However, the subsequent year proved challenging, as she confronted the complexities of her relationship amid the emotional strain of fertility struggles.

Acknowledging the societal narratives surrounding relationship hardships and the need for compromise, Bush disclosed that the heartbreak of the fertility journey catalyzed a pivotal reassessment of her marriage.

This moment of clarity propelled her towards introspection, prompting a transformative journey that saw her embracing a theatrical opportunity in London’s esteemed West End. Unfortunately, her stint was cut short due to health concerns, compelling her return to Los Angeles last summer.

Back in LA, Bush found solace and camaraderie among a circle of women navigating their own relationship trials and tribulations. Among these companions was former soccer luminary Ashlyn Harris, with whom Bush shared a bond forged over four years. Harris, in the midst of her own marital transition from former teammate Ali Krieger, became a pillar of support during this period of growth and self-discovery for Bush.

She described “falling in love” with Harris, adding: “I sort of hate the notion of having to come out in 2024. But I’m deeply aware that we are having this conversation in a year when we’re seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in modern history.

“There were more than 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills proposed in state legislatures in 2023, so for that reason I want to give the act of coming out the respect and honor it deserves. I’ve experienced so much safety, respect, and love in the queer community, as an ally all of my life, that, as I came into myself, I already felt it was my home.”

“I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum,” Bush wrote, adding. “Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great.”
