South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, a very likely Vice Presidential candidate of Donald Trump under scrutiny for recounting an incident in her latest book where she euthanized her dog, implied that President Biden should have done the same with his former dog, Commander.
In her book, Noem details the euthanization of her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, Cricket, due to its aggressive behavior. She also mentions hypothetically introducing Commander, Biden’s dog, to Cricket if she were to visit the White House.
President Biden’s German shepherd, Commander, had a history of biting White House staff members, leading to his removal in 2023.
On “Face the Nation,” Noem claimed that the president should be held responsible for his dog’s actions and suggested accountability could involve euthanasia.
Noem has defended her action, citing the protection of her children and emphasizing personal responsibility. However, criticism persists regarding the inclusion of the incident in her memoir.
Recent discussions have questioned Noem’s political trajectory. While once considered a potential vice presidential candidate, her remarks have led some, like former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, to believe she has jeopardized such prospects.
Nonetheless, she remains a contender in Republican circles, as evidenced by her presence at a donors’ retreat in Palm Beach, Florida.
