The highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film The Fantastic Four has found its Silver Surfer in Emmy-winning actress Julia Garner. This casting news follows the previous announcements revealing the actors set to portray the iconic superhero team at the center of the film.

Deadline has disclosed that Garner, who has skyrocketed to fame thanks to her acclaimed performances in shows like Ozark and Inventing Anna, will take on the role of Shalla-Bal, a character from the comics who is a variation of the classic Silver Surfer.

While specific plot details remain tightly under wraps, her involvement suggests an intriguing cosmic storyline awaits.

The Fantastic Four ensemble comprises Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Matt Shakman, fresh off the success of WandaVision, is set to direct from a screenplay co-written by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson, and Ian Springer.

Julia Garner’s career has been on an impressive upward trajectory since her breakout in Ozark, for which she won three Primetime Emmy Awards. She has quickly amassed an enviable film slate, including the upcoming releases The Royal Hotel, Wolfman, and Apartment 7A.

Marvel Studios is keeping characteristically tight-lipped about the project, but anticipation is already building for this new take on the Fantastic Four mythos, slated for release on July 25, 2025.
