Two of Hollywood’s most exciting young talents have been cast in the lead roles of a bold new Broadway production of Shakespeare’s iconic “Romeo and Juliet.”
“Heartstopper” sensation Kit Connor and “West Side Story” breakout Rachel Zegler will make their Broadway debuts as the star-crossed lovers in this modern reimagining.
Directed by acclaimed visionary Sam Gold, known for his inventive Shakespearean stagings, this “Romeo + Juliet” promises to be an uncompromising take on the timeless tragedy.
“I wanted to create a show that speaks directly to the anger and hope that young people are feeling right now,” said director Sam Gold. “Shakespeare’s tale of forbidden love has never felt more urgent or necessary.”
With a provocative tagline declaring “the youth are fucked,” the production will aim to capture the fury and fragility of a new generation navigating a tumultuous world.
Also, joining the dynamic duo of Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler is a formidable creative team, including Grammy winner Jack Antonoff, who will compose the original score, and Tony-winning choreographer Sonya Tayeh.
More updates are still expected.
Meanwhile, an actress who will be playing Juliet in another Broadway show recently faced a lot of backlash when it was announced that she will be paired with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” star, Tom Holland.
