Maguire’s goal marked the 1,085th goal of the 2023-24 Premier League season, setting a new record for the most goals scored in a 20-team campaign, surpassing the previous record of 1,084 goals set last season.
Meanwhile, Fernandes also had a standout performance, scoring two goals in consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his career. With seven goals in his last six league appearances, Fernandes has now reached a total of 10 Premier League goals for the season.
Despite their attacking prowess, Manchester United’s defensive vulnerabilities were evident against Sheffield United, conceding twice to the league’s lowest-scoring team.
Having conceded 50 goals in 33 games, this marks the second time in three seasons that Manchester United has shipped 50 or more league goals, a stark contrast to their defensive record in previous Premier League campaigns.
