The late artist first rose to national prominence in 2006 when she finished in the top 9 on the fifth season of “American Idol.” She quickly transitioned into a successful career in Christian music, releasing her debut album “True Beauty” in 2007.
However, it was her 2013 album “Overcomer” that built her as a force in the contemporary Christian genre. The album even went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

In addition to her musical endeavors, she also authored a memoir titled “Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy,” released in 2022. The book offered a candid look at her struggles with depression and her journey to find joy through her faith.
