Ford Motor Co. is initiating a recall for over 450,000 compact SUVs and pickup trucks due to issues concerning a loss of drive power stemming from a battery-related problem.

As announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday, the recall encompasses 2022-2024 model year Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick compact pickup trucks manufactured between 2022-2023.

According to the NHTSA, an undetected low battery charge may result in electrical accessories malfunctioning, such as hazard lights, or lead to a loss of drive power in the affected vehicles. Approximately 456,565 vehicles are impacted by this issue.

Dealers will rectify the problem by recalibrating the body control and powertrain control modules, with no charge to owners, as stated in the recall notice.

In addition to this recent recall, Ford issued another last week for tens of thousands of small SUVs due to concerns regarding cracked fuel injectors potentially leading to fuel leaks and fire hazards.

This recall, affecting certain 2022-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022 Escape models equipped with 1.5-liter engines, encompasses 42,652 vehicles. Ford plans to address this issue by updating the affected vehicles’ engine control software to incorporate fuel injector leak detection and installing a drain tube.

Owners can anticipate receiving recall notices via mail from Ford later this month. Despite these recalls, Ford’s stock performance remains relatively unchanged this year.

March and early April have seen a flurry of recall notices from other automobile manufacturers as well. Hyundai and Kia recalled over 147,000 U.S. electric vehicles due to damaged charging units, while Chrysler recalled approximately 286,000 vehicles over concerns with side airbag inflators.

Subaru also issued a recall for 118,000 U.S. vehicles due to potential airbag deployment issues, and Kia recalled an additional 427,000 Telluride models over suspected improper assembly leading to unintended movement while in park, as warned by the NHTSA.
