In a stirring message delivered during the April 2024 General Conference, Elder Steven R. Bangerter, a General Authority Seventy, encouraged Latter-day Saints to seek out the divine missions they were foreordained to fulfill in mortality.
“Before you were born,” he said, “God appointed each of you to fulfill specific missions during your mortal life upon this earth.”
This premortal decree, he explained, holds the potential to unlock a multitude of opportunities in our present lives – if we but remain worthy and strive to follow the Lord’s will.
The path to uncovering these foreordained blessings, according to Elder Bangerter, begins with a sincere desire to know God’s plan.
“Our Heavenly Father desires to reveal to you your personal foreordination and He will do so as you seek to learn and follow His will.”
According to him, through the sacred activities of studying the scriptures, engaging in heartfelt prayer, and pondering one’s patriarchal blessing, the Spirit can illuminate the unique gifts and callings God has in store for each of His children.
Elder Bangerter emphasized that the key to unlocking this divinely-inspired revelation lies in “protect[ing] the private times” of our lives. By carving out space for spiritual nourishment and personal reflection, we create the conditions for the Lord to speak to our hearts and minds, guiding us toward the fulfillment of our eternal missions.
“You will more fully bind yourself to God in the covenants you make with Him and you will be lifted to have greater hope, faith and assurance in the promises He has made to you.”
