Schools in the nation’s capital were thrown into panic as five of them reportedly received bomb threats on the morning of May 1, 2024, according to police officials.
The Delhi Police, in the latest update, have stated that the bomb threats targeting schools appear to be a hoax, urging the public to remain calm.
The affected schools include Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, Delhi Public School in Dwarka, Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Delhi Public School in Vasant Kunj, and Amity School in Saket, as reported by PTI. Following the receipt of threatening emails, all five schools were evacuated upon notification to local law enforcement.
Alka Kapur, Principal of Modern Public School in Shalimar Bagh, described the situation as multiple schools receiving threats early in the morning. She noted, “It seemed like a broadcast message since most schools in Delhi have received it. We immediately evacuated students and took them to an open ground away from the school.” Kapur added that parents were still arriving to pick up their children around 11 am.
Jyoti Arora, principal of Mount Abu Public School in Rohini, confirmed receiving the threat. Approximately 500 parents had picked up their children by 11 am, and Delhi Police’s bomb squads arrived at the school half an hour after being contacted.
