Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has been recovering at home with her family after undergoing abdominal surgery in January.
While the palace has not disclosed the details of her illness or surgery, they have stated that she is “doing well” and focusing on her well-being. She has not resumed her official duties since her hospitalization, but has been in touch with her patronages and charities.
Meanwhile, her father-in-law King Charles, has also been absent from his public role as he receives treatment for an unspecified form of cancer. He announced his diagnosis in early February and has canceled all his engagements while he undergoes therapy. He has delegated some of his responsibilities to his son Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, who has taken the centre stage of royal public duties.
However, Prince William also had to pull out of attending a memorial service for his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece, on Tuesday, due to a “personal matter”, which some are speculating may be connected to his wife, Kate Middleton’s health.
The palace did not elaborate on the reason for his withdrawal, but said that he called the Greek royal family to let them know he was unable to attend. The service was held at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, where other royals, including Queen Camilla, Prince Andrew, and Princess Beatrice, were present.
King Constantine, who was a cousin of Prince Charles and a relation of Queen Elizabeth II, died at the age of 82 in January 2023. He was the last King of Greece, who reigned from 1964 to 1973, until a military coup forced him into exile. He was also a close friend of Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April 2021.
The memorial service was a private event, attended by about 200 guests, mostly from the Greek royal family and their friends. Queen Camilla hosted a reception for the guests after the service.
