The Borderlands movie, based on the popular video game franchise, is finally coming to the big screen this year, 2024. It is scheduled to hit theaters on August 9th, in the U.S.
The movie, directed by Eli Roth and featuring a star-studded cast of Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis, offers a thrilling journey on the planet of Pandora.
Cate Blanchett will be playing Lilith, an infamous treasure hunter and one of the six Sirens, powerful women with mystical abilities. Jack Black as Claptrap, a wise-cracking and annoying robot who assists the heroes.
Kevin Hart is cast as Roland, a former soldier and mercenary who is skilled with firearms and explosives. Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis, a brilliant but eccentric scientist who knows a lot about Pandora and the Vaults.
We also have Edgar Ramirez as Atlas, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs, and many more characters involved.
The Borderlands movie follows the story of Lilith, who returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the universe’s most powerful man. She teams up with a group of misfits to face the dangers and mysteries of Pandora. Along the way, they encounter the legendary Vaults, which hold the secrets of the universe and unimaginable power.
The film was originally announced in 2015, but faced several delays and challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and reshoots. The film wrapped up production in 2022 and underwent post-production in 2023.
While the movie is based on the video game series created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, which consists of four main games and several spin-offs, it is not a direct adaptation. It only draws inspiration from the games’ characters, settings, and themes.
The Borderlands movie trailer is expected to drop tomorrow, February 21st, and we can’t wait to see it.
