AT&T, the largest wireless carrier in the U.S., suffered a nationwide outage that affected thousands of its customers on Thursday.

The outage started around 4:00 a.m. ET, disrupting voice and data services for AT&T wireless and landline customers, as well as emergency services and other carriers that rely on AT&T’s network.

According to Downdetector.com, a website that tracks service outages, more than 44,000 AT&T customers reported issues at the peak of the outage, with the most affected areas being Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Miami, Chicago, and Atlanta.

The San Francisco Fire Department wrote on their X account that they are “actively engaged and monitoring this.” They also mentioned that,

“The San Francisco 911 center is still operational. If you are an AT&T customer and cannot get through to 911, then please try calling from a landline. If that is not an option then please try to get ahold of a friend or family member who is a customer of a different carrier and ask them to call 911 on your behalf. Do not call or text 911 to simply test your phone service.”

The outage also affected other carriers such as Verizon and T-Mobile.

New Update: AT&T has released a statement assuring its customers that the service is now back up. They have also issued an apology to those who were affected by the outage.

“We have restored wireless service to all our affected customers. We sincerely apologize to them. Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future.”

This is still a developing story and will be updated with time.
