Al-Nassr’s Christiano Ronaldo is the highest goal scorer for 2023 after registering a brace against Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice from the penalty spot as Al Nassr beat Al Ittihad 5-2 in the Saudi Pro League.
Al Ittihad took an early lead through Abderrazak Hamdallah in the 14th minute, but Al Nassr was soon awarded a spot-kick which Ronaldo sent down the middle.
Talisca sent Al Nassr ahead in the 38th minute but Hamdallah equalized six minutes into the second half.
In the second half, Ronaldo scored from the spot again in the 68th minute to retake the lead and bag his 53rd goal of 2023.
His 53 goals top Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe on that list.
Kane plays for Bayern Munich, while Mbappe plays for Paris Saint-Germain, both clubs in the top five European leagues that are also contending for the Champions League crown.
He would remain the top scorer since Kane and Mbappe do not have more games to play this year.
Although Haaland has been out of City’s squad for a while due to injury, he would have to score a hat-trick when he returns and pray that Ronaldo does not score anymore to share the title with him.
The Portuguese star also will have one more chance to add to his tally when Al-Nassr takes on Al-Taawoun on Saturday.
