Spain has qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup final for the first time in their history. And if they win, they will be the second team to half both the men and the women win world trophies.
Salma Paralluelo once again made her impact on the field after scoring the winning goal in the quarter-final, she broke the deadlock after Andersson failed to clear Hermoso’s shot into the penalty box. Paralluelo fires the ball into the back of the net with her right foot in the 83rd minute.
VAR also checked to see if Navarro was interfering with play from an offside decision, but there were no issues.
Five minutes later, Sweden got their equalizer. Lina Hurtig, who has just come in – won a header, sending the ball across the goal for Blomqvist who got the shot away to level.
On the counterattack only 94 seconds later, Olga Carmona put Spain in front again as she fired at goal from a corner. The ball hit the crossbar but bounced down and crossed the line.
There was barely time to process Sweden’s equalizer before Carmona popped up with the winner. The Swedish team were not happy as this was the fourth semi-final loss in five world cups.
Spain’s squad could be seen jumping across the pitch as they were emphatic. They’ll face England or Australia in Sunday’s final in Sydney.
Australia would be facing England in the second semi-final fixture on Wednesday. Australia got the better of England earlier this year in a friendly in London. That 2-0 win ended England’s run of 30 games unbeaten.
