Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ story has bagged six Emmy nominations. And they have successfully pushed the club into the England Football League (EFL – League Two).
Wrexham finished last season as the winners of the National League and the story ‘Welcome to Wrexham,’ documents how Reynolds and McElhenney owned and developed the club.
With its 18-episode first season, the show was able to land 6 Emmy nominations for reality programming, including Directing, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Cinematography, Picture Editing and Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.
Speaking on the unique venture, McElhenney spoke on the positivity of the production.
“When we met the people of Wrexham, we realized we could get the world to become emotionally invested in them, because they’d see themselves reflected back,” he said.
“People who have never watched a sporting event in their life are into this team,” said Reynolds.
“Welcome to Wrexham” will premiere its second season September 12 on FX.
