Algeria has joined the list of Islamic countries that have banned the movie ‘Barbie’ due to their moral standards.
Barbie, which has topped $1.2 billion in worldwide revenues, was released in Algeria on July 19 before cinemas in the country removed it from their schedules on Sunday without explanation.
The blockbuster film distributor announced its removal without stating the reason why.
Though it was widely expected by LGBTQ communities around the world, the film does not contain any explicit references to same-sex relationships or queer pieces.
An online news site in the country said:
“Algeria has become embroiled in controversy over Barbie due to scenes intended for adult audiences” and allusions to homosexuality.

Most Arab countries detest Hollywood movies, especially the ones that suggest or could contain explicit adult scenes or homosexuality.
