Twitter Rebrands, Changes Name, Domain & Bird Logo To X

Twitter Rebrands, Changes Bird Logo To X

Elon Musk has rebranded Twitter and changed its long-time blue bird logo to a capital X.

Musk first made the announcement on Sunday morning and by Monday morning US time, he tweeted that a new domain name X.com now points to Twitter.com.

However, he said the X logo will not be permanent.

The X logo now shows on the Twitter website as well as its loading icon.

Twitter was founded in 2006 and has used the popular blue bird logo for over a decade.

Twitter’s change to X is coming after Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta launched its version of the former blue-bird app called Threads.

In recent times, Twitter has been facing a massive decline in revenue following its acquisition by Elon Musk and subsequent layoffs of staff in a bid to boost profitability.

Elon Musk overhauled Twitter after buying it for $44 billion in late October 2022, then followed disputes over millions of dollars allegedly owed in severance after massive dismissal of staff and Musk’s note to employees that remaining at the company would mean “working long hours at high intensity.” He wrote: “Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”

The move prompted many brands to stop their advert spending, resulting in a drop of about 50% in revenue from adverts.

Elon Musk’s Twitter was also thrown in a bad light because it was “very reluctant to delete things”, which can go many ways. Twitter’s free speech can expose hidden truths as well as promote hate speech and other illegal content.
