Two varieties of belVita Breakfast Sandwich biscuits in the US have been voluntarily recalled by Mondelez International’s subsidiary over possible undeclared peanuts in the products.
The recall is limited to specific batches of the Dark Chocolate Creme and Cinnamon Brown Sugar with Vanilla Creme varieties ofbelVita Breakfast Sandwich productslisted on the FDA website. No other belVita products are affected.
According to Mondelez Global LLC, the products sold at retail stores nationwide may contain undeclared peanuts resulting from cross-contact on its single manufacturing line.
Mondelez said that no other belVita products or markets outside the United States were affected by the contamination.
There are three unconfirmed reports of possible allergic reactions to date related to these products, the company said.
People who have peanut allergies or severe sensitivities to peanuts stand the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions by eating the affected products
Mondelez said it made the discovery during an internal manufacturing inspection. A potential presence of peanut protein residue was found on the line used to make the biscuits.
The affected and recalled products were sold at Walmart and Kroger stores nationwide.
