4-Year-Old Missing Boy Found Dead On Shoreline Of Massachusetts Island

The dead body of 4-year-old Mohamed Abou Fofana who went missing on Sunday was found on the shore of Spectacle Island, directly across the water from Castle Island.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, his corpse was found by a police boat just before 12:30 p.m on Monday and will be transferred to the custody of the office of the chief medical examiner.

According to authorities, the boy was at Castle Island with his grandfather and older sister.

His grandfather reportedly lost sight of him while talking on his cellphone, and called 911 at about 7.30 pm to report his disappearance.

A massive search involving Massachusetts State Police and local police, as well as firefighters and the Coast Guard- by air, water, and sea, using helicopters, drones, and boats were launched to search for the missing child.

The initial search took a break around 1 a.m. Monday and continued after sunrise.

Just before 2 pm, Massachusetts State Police confirmed “with much sadness” that they had located his body.

“Our detective unit for Suffolk County will conduct the follow-up death investigation. We express our deepest condolences to his family,” the state police said.
