USA vs Mexico Friendly Match Extends Five Unbeaten Run For America

The U.S. men’s national team scored a late goal from a counterattack to close the match against Mexico in a 1-1 draw. The friendly match was played on Wednesday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Mexico nearly doubled their score in the 81st minute when a Carlos Rodriguez curler hit the goal post, only for the Americans to go immediately down the pitch and score an unexpected equalizer.

U.S. left-back Sergino dribbled and ran past several Mexican players, before passing the ball to Alan Sonora who came in the second half. Alon in turn found Jordan Morris on the left flank who passed on to Jesus Ferreira. Ferreira finished it with his eighth international goal, making Americans stand undefeated in their last five games against Mexico.

Mexico found the opening goal just 10 minutes after the break. Mexico’s Uriel Antuna took the ball from U.S. central defender Aaron Long, then had a free run at goal before depositing it into the back of the net.

“We got a lot of competitions coming up against them [Mexico] and it’s something that will stay in the back of their head,” said veteran U.S. defender DeAndre Yedlin said at the end of the match, in reference to the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal coming up in June.
