Fans waited for over an hour as Netflix worked to perfect its live-streaming operation and show the fourth season of “Love Is Blind, a highly anticipated episode.
The delay was an embarrassing blunder for Netflix which has been experimenting with live streaming service.
Vanessa Lachey, who co-hosts the show with her husband Nick Lachey apologized when the show finally started, “We are so sorry we’re late,” she said, “We are no longer live, but we are now finally here.”
‘Love Is Blind’ is Netflix’s second live-streaming program. Last month it streamed Chris Rock’s live stand-up comedy special.
The special reunion episode which was to rehash the drama of the season and update fans on participants’ lives — was scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday night. In a tweet just as it was supposed to begin, Netflix promised it would start within 15 minutes. But when the time went past 9 p.m., and the show “Succession” began on H.B.O., the reunion episode had still not started.
“Love Is Blind” which started three years ago and is currently in its fourth season, is one of Netflix’smost popular and well-known franchises, drawing millions of viewers.
The failed episode was expected to include appearances from singles with the most drama during the season.
It drew the attention of viewers who joked about the delays with snipes about the show and its talent, with one user tweeting that Netflix would get DVDs of the reunion to subscribers by mail.
Netflix’s competitor Bravo took a swipe at them when they tweeted: “We would never keep you waiting for a Reunion,” and representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said, “Someone call Lucia the seamstress to fix this.”
The ‘Love Is Blind’ show started for some viewers after 9 p.m. And even after the episode began, some users experienced technical glitches.
“To everyone who stayed up late, woke up early, or gave up their Sunday afternoon … we are incredibly sorry that the Love is Blind Live Reunion did not turn out as we had planned. We’re filming it now and we’ll have it on Netflix as soon as humanly possible. Again, thank you and sorry,” Netflix tweeted around 9:30 p.m.
