Jay Leno revealed that he broke his bones; a broken collarbone, two broken ribs, and two cracked kneecaps in a motorcycle accident.
How Jay Leno’s Bike Accident Happened
According to Leno, he was testing a vintage bike, a 1940 Indian motorcycle, when he noticed the smell of leaking gas.
“So I turned down a side street and cut through a parking lot, and unbeknownst to me, some guy had a wire strung across the parking lot but with no flag hanging from it.”
“So, you know, I didn’t see it until it was too late. It just clothesline me and, boom, knocked me off the bike. The bike kept going, and you know how that works out.”
He revealed that the accident happened on January 17.
Jay Leno had earlier suffered a fire accident in his garage in Los Angeles last November. He was left with second-degree burns over his upper body and part of his face while repairing the fuel line in a 1907 White Steam Car.
He was working on his vintage 1907 White Motor Co. steam-powered car with a friend when he noticed that the vehicle’s fuel line was clogged.
He then went underneath the vehicle to try to fix it. “Blow some air through the line…then suddenly, boom, I got a face full of gas. And then the pilot light jumped, and my face caught on fire,” he recalled.
“My friend pulled me out and jumped on top of me and kind of smothered the fire,” Leno added.
According to the 72-year-old, he chose not to make the bike accident public because of the massive amount of coverage from his November hospitalization and recovery.
“But I’m OK! I’m OK, I’m working. I’m working this weekend.” Leno told reporters after revealing the accident.
