According to reports Thursday, the private school created by the musician formerly known as Kanye West may have reopened after making an announcement Wednesday night that it was closing.
The principal of the school informed parents via email that the school would be shut down immediately, according to Hollywood Unlocked.
According to the email, the school did plan to return in September 2023.
The school subsequently returned “with a fury,” thanks to support from parents and the community, according to a second email sent to parents at around midnight, according to TMZ.
The note, which was signed “Parents of Donda,” gave no further details regarding the decision to reopen or who made it. Donda Academy has been contacted by KTLA parent firm Nexstar for explanation.
Ye established Donda Academy in 2022; it is a Christian private school without accreditation.
The institution is meant to “be a reflection of God’s grandeur in the world,” according to its website. It was initially situated in unincorporated Ventura County but is noted in some documents as being in Chatsworth.
ESPN and the British publication The Times both reported on the closure.
The reason for the school’s closure was not explicitly stated in the initial email, although Ye has recently come under fire for making antisemitic remarks.
The artist hinted earlier this month that he will soon “go death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE” in a tweet, apparently alluding to the DEFCON scale used by the United States to measure defense readiness.
He was denied access to his Instagram and Twitter accounts as a result of his antisemitic language.
Adidas, a German sportswear giant, severed its relationship with Ye earlier this week.
Among other things, you said that the COVID-19 vaccination was the “mark of the beast,” implied that slavery was a choice, and more. Additionally, he received criticism for showing up to his Yeezy collection exhibition in Paris wearing a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt.
