In memory of Taylor Hawkins, frontman Dave Grohl asked the fans to roar towards the end of the Foo Fighters performance on Friday night in London. The first of two memorial concerts for Hawkins, the late drummer for the Foo Fighters who passed away in March at the age of 50, was held at Wembley Stadium.
The lineup included Sir Paul McCartney, Queen, and AC/DC, but Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Shane, who played the drums in memory of his father, had the most touching appearance.
The band was set to perform in Bogota, Colombia, where Hawkins passed away. Although no specific cause of death was given, a toxicology report revealed that he had evidence of various narcotics in his body, according to the BBC. It has not been determined by investigators whether that contributed to his demise.
Following Hawkins’ passing, the rock band postponed the remainder of their tour, making Friday’s concert the group’s first in months.
Hawkins was raised in Laguna Beach, California, despite being born in Fort Worth, Texas. When he first began playing the drums at age 10, he was certain that he wanted to perform professionally.
Since 1997, the drummer had been a part of the Foo Fighters.
Hawkins assisted the band in scoring four No. 1 successes on the Billboard charts and helping them win 12 Grammy Awards. The band was in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
