Lizzo, a superstar singer, rapper, and classically trained flutist had the honor of playing former President James Madison’s flute onstage, in front of her fans in Washington, D.C.
She took a short but momentous break from the setlist of “The Special Tour” to play the crystal flute entrusted to her by the Library of Congress.
Taking to her Twitter, an excited Lizzo wrote:
“NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD THIS FAMOUS CRYSTAL FLUTE BEFORE, NOW YOU HAVE.
IM THE FIRST & ONLY PERSON TO EVER PLAY THIS PRESIDENTIAL 200-YEAR-OLD CRYSTAL FLUTE— THANK YOU @librarycongress.
The flute is among the more than 1,800 flutes that now live in the Library of Congress. She has been playing the flute since she was in grade school, first learning by ear and then in private lessons (she initially dreamed of becoming a concert flautist before getting into rap and singing.
She was pretty nervous about even holding the flute, much less playing it, and told the crowd … as only Lizzo could, “Bitch I’m scared.”
Lizzo is also an Emmy nominated and award-winning actress and a comedian, featured in many honorary films, including the 2021 roast of the year, featuring many iconic comedians.
She hosted her music tour, themed ‘The Special Tour’, and Washington, DC is one of the many places she would graze with her performance.
