Russian police claim that Daria Dugina, a pundit from Russia and the daughter of nationalist philosopher Aleksandr Dugin, was killed by a car bomb that exploded in Moscow on Saturday night.
According to a Telegram post from the Russian Investigative Commission, investigations are ongoing, and the committee believes the incident was premeditated.
Prior to the incident, the father and daughter were said to have attended a festival outside of Moscow. As Dugina was driving away, a device under her Toyota Land Cruiser exploded.
The 29-year-old and her father were initially scheduled to leave the event in the same vehicle, according to the BBC, which led some to believe older Dugin was the intended target of any attack.
For spreading false information online regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, Dugina was designated for penalties by both the US and the UK.
The US noted Daria Dugina was the editor in chief of United World International, which disseminated rumors and declared that Ukraine would “perish” if it joined NATO. Her father was linked to the Geopolitica website, which is accused of publishing incorrect claims that the United States and NATO instigated war with Russia.
Although no one immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing on Saturday, some Russians have begun to point the finger at Ukraine, according to the New York Times. Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet commented.
