Rapper Mystikal is being jailed without bond after a new rape accusation

Rapper Mystikal was imprisoned in Louisiana on Monday after prosecutors dropped the rape allegations that had previously landed him in jail for 18 months in another region of the state, more than a year ago.

Michael “Mystikal” Tyler was detained on suspicion of rape and battery in a domestic situation, according to Sheriff Bobby Webre of Ascension Parish, which is located near Baton Rouge.

According to the sheriff’s office inmate lookup, the 51-year-old hip-hop legend is being held without bond on 10 charges.

A hearing will be held on Tuesday in Ascension Parish, according to Shreveport attorney Joel Pearce, who previously represented the rapper in that matter.

Although they are scheduled to meet on Wednesday or Thursday to discuss Tyler’s current case, Pearce claimed that he has not yet been hired for it. He promised to make a comment at that time.

Pearce defended the rapper when allegations of a sexual assault at a casino in Shreveport in 2016 were made in 2017. After fresh evidence was submitted to a grand jury in December 2020 but did not result in a new indictment, the prosecution withdrew the rape and kidnapping accusations.

Northwest of Ascension Parish, Shreveport is located more than 200 miles (320 kilometres) away.

According to Webre, deputies responded to a call regarding a sexual assault at a hospital just before midnight on Sunday and spoke with the victim, who had minor wounds.

First-degree rape, a straightforward robbery, false imprisonment, a straightforward criminal damage to property, and drug offences including amphetamine possession are among the new accusations. First-degree rape conviction imposes a minimum sentence of life in prison; the prosecutor has the option of seeking the death penalty.

Tyler admitted guilt to sexual battery in 2003 and was sentenced to six years in jail.

He admitted to becoming a member of a “terrible fraternity” in April 2021, but he was prepared to leave it behind.

“Shake (It Fast),” a hit by Mystikal from 2000, peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Let’s Get Ready,” his 2000 album, reached multiplatinum status.
