Although Dwayne Johnson’s DC obsession “Black Adam” won’t hit theaters until this October, the character could have made his film premiere in 2019’s “Shazam!” had Warner Bros. followed through with its initial plan.
In 2014, the “Shazam!” movie script entered production featuring origin tales for both the lead character and Blak Adam. It made sense for the pair to make their big-screen debuts together in one movie because they have a shared heritage in comic books.
Johnson objected. He called the studio and voiced his objection, saying it would be a disservice to the movie.
In the end, Warner Bros. consented, and Johnson will now star in the stand-alone tentpole “Black Adam” this fall. Johnson has frequently assured audiences that his film will fundamentally alter the DC universe as it is presented on screen.
Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, and Pierce Brosnan co-star with the actor in the movie.
On October 21, “Black Adam” debuts in theaters.
