The responses to the post on the unofficial account of Larry the cat were funny. It has received over 178,000 likes and over 29,000 retweets since being shared.
This follows a wave of resignations that shook Westminster. Along with a number of ministers, Boris Johnson’s secretaries of finance and health resigned on Tuesday. More than 20 government officials are said to have resigned in the last 24 hours in protest of Mr. Johnson’s leadership, according to sources.
Rishi Sunak, the finance minister, and Sajid Javid, the health secretary, declared that they could no longer put up with the scandalous atmosphere that has followed Mr. Johnson for months, including the lockdown lawbreaking in Downing Street that infuriated the general public who adhered to the Covid-19 guidelines.
The UK PM, though, resisted leaving on Wednesday despite a wave of resignations. The 58-year-old made a commitment to fulfil his term. “Frankly, the job of a prime minister in difficult times when you have been handed a colossal mandate is to keep going, and that’s what I’m going to do,” he declared.
In choosing Nadhim Zahawi, formerly the minister of education, as his new finance minister, Mr. Johnson further demonstrated his resolve to hold onto his position.
