Despite having a mastery of his singing abilities, the ability to relay thought in speech without stuttering is a major problem for Ed Sheeran.
In 2015, during a speech at the American Institute for Stuttering’s Changing Lives Benefit Gala in New York, where he was honoured, the then 24-year-old artist revealed his struggles with speech and how he was able to manage it.
“I had a part-time stain birthmark on my face that I got lasered off when I was very young… one day, they forgot to put the anaesthetic on, and ever since then, I have had a stutter,” Ed said.
Ed revealed it was rap maestro, Eminem, who unknowingly helped him stop his stutter. He reportedly said his dad gave him Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP” CD when he was 9.
“I learned every word of it back to front by the time I was 10… and he raps very fast and very percussively [which] helped me get rid of this stutter.”
