As if you needed another reason to honor your furry (or scaly) companions. It’s National Pet Day on Monday.
Dogs and cats are probably the most popular household pets, but what about the other animals?
Google Trends developed a map and shared it with USA TODAY, excluding cats and dogs, of the most searched pets by state. Guinea pigs, chinchillas, bearded dragons, sugar gliders, and hamsters are among the animals on the list.
You might be surprised by the answers. Chinchillas were the most popular pets in Ohio, while guinea pigs were popular in Kentucky. Bearded dragons were supreme in Indiana searches.
Similar pets were sought in many states across the country. Bearded dragons were a popular search topic in the south.
Only New Mexico has hamsters at the top of the list.
