The Nigerian senate has passed the bill to restrict landlords from taking yearly rents from tenants for a second reading.

It was reported earlier that the bill which is tagged ‘Advance Rent for Residential Apartments, Office Spaces, Etc, Regulation Bill 2022’ was endorsed by Senator Smart Adeyemi, who is representing Kogi West.

The proposed bill which has already passed its first reading was supported by some senators while it was also opposed by a senator identified as Chimaroke Nnamani who stated that the senate should not decide rent payment methods to landlords who strived hard to build their houses.
