71-year-old Dr. Francis Collins is stepping down today 19 December as the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
In an interview on “Face The Nation” where he shared some insight on Omicron in the United States, the host, Margaret Brennan, thanked him for his service to the country.
“We go now to the director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins. Good morning. And before we begin, Doctor, I want to note that this is your last day as director. You’re not retiring, but you are stepping aside from NIH, so thank you for your service to the country.“
Dr. Francis Collins who assumed office on 17 August 2009, is the 16th director of the institute, serving under President Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden, serving 12 years from 2009 to 2021.
He majored in chemistry, genetics, and internal medicine. He is also known for his view on religion, which he believes can be related.
