It was clear that Patrick Mahomes was eager to play in the game against Chicago Bears. Throughout his brief playing career, the one-time MVP, Super Bowl victor, and four-time Pro Bowler made it look simple.
On Kansas City’s opening drive, Mahomes threw for 60 yards and a touchdown. He then stood by as the Chiefs fell to the Chicago Bears 19-14 in the first preseason game.
Matt Eberflus, a head coach from Chicago, was in charge of his debut game. It also represented Matt Nagy, the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach at the moment and Nagy’s predecessor, returning to Soldier Field.
After leading the Chicago Bears to a 34-31 record in four seasons, he was fired in January. Andy Reid, whom he had previously worked for in Philadelphia and Kansas City, was then his new boss.
Although the NFL Players Association president was highly critical of the field’s condition, Mahomes had no issue playing on it. He also dissected a defense that was without its two finest players due to the contract dispute involving linebacker Roquan Smith and the Bears’ refusal to sign star pass rusher Robert Quinn.

The Bears Wake Up
In the third quarter, Jack Sanborn recovered a fumble and made an interception, which resulted in a touchdown and field goal.
Siemian completed 7 of 13 passes for 89 yards and two scores. After Sanborn intercepted Buechele early in the third quarter, he tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Trestan Ebner and a 13-yarder to Dazz Newsome to make it 14-13.
With about six minutes left in the game, Cairo Santos scored from 47 yards out to give Chicago a 16-14 lead after Sanborn recovered a fumble by running back Derrick Gore.
