The Carolinas are being topped by a new storm by the name of Colin.

Inland along the South Carolina coast, Tropical Storm Colin has developed, according to the National Hurricane Center, and will continue to produce heavy rain and strong winds to coastal regions during the long weekend.

There are currently tropical storm advisories in place for those regions.

The third named storm in the Atlantic for 2022 is Colin. It’s anticipated that it will follow the Carolina coast before veering more to the northeast and leaving the continent.

The center of Tropical Storm Colin was about 5 miles west of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as of 10 a.m. CDT on Saturday. It was moving northeast at 7 mph.

Colin was a weak tropical storm with winds of 40 mph. According to the hurricane center, Colin won’t be changing much in strength and may weaken by Monday.

From Little River, South Carolina, northward to Duck, North Carolina, as well as Pamlico Sound, a tropical storm warning is in force.

Tropical storm conditions are anticipated in South Carolina this morning and will move northward this afternoon to the warning region in North Carolina through Sunday, according to the hurricane center.

Through Sunday morning, the storm could dump another 1 to 2 inches of rain in that region.
