Manchester City surprisingly lost 4-3 in Orlando in extra time at the Club World Cup to Al-Hilal, with head coach Pep Guardiola blaming the defeat on a lack of ruthlessness.

The deciding goal that put Manchester City out of the game, denying them a feature in the semi-finals, was scored at the 112th minute by Marcus Leonardo.

The English giant team had early chances, but they failed to convert them into goals. Haaland, Doku, Savinho, Dias, and Gvardiol failed to net their opportunities.

Manchester City scored the first goal from a brilliant strike by Bernardo Silva in the 9th minute, but Al-Hilal responded through Leonardo and Malcom. Haaland scored the equalizer shortly, which led to extra time, where Koulibaly and Foden scored for their team, and Leonardo’s goal knocked out City.

Midfielder Rodri, who just returned from a knee injury, was taken off the pitch after he complained of discomfort, which further gave Guardiola concern. Guardiola commended the spirit of his players but acknowledged the quality of Al-Hilal.

Bernardo Silva, in his speech after the match, mentioned that the result is proof that football globally is competitive, saying, “Football has never been only in Europe.”
