Michael B. Jordan and director Ryan Coogler have returned to theaters with a bang. Their new R-rated horror movie, Sinners, frightened up a total of $4.7 million from Thursday night previews.

The vampire thriller is estimated to make between $45 million and $50 million for its debut weekend, with some predicting still higher than that. Warner Bros., though, is providing a more modest range of between $35 million and $40 million.

Overseas, Sinners will add another $10 million to $15 million, for a healthy international start.

Unlike Disney’s abysmal Snow White, this is a much-needed victory for Warner Bros., a studio that has recently seen its share of disappointments, including such recent flops as Robert De Niro’s The Alto Knights and Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon Ho.

The movie continues to lead as the year 2025’s highest-grossing film, taking home $283 million domestically and $557 million globally as of now.

It broke the record for largest video game movie opening, held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and is poised to be the year’s first billion-dollar smash hit. In its third weekend, it will see another estimated $40 million to $45 million.

In Sinners, Jordan plays twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return home after World War I, only to face off with a supernatural vampiric force.

Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Jack O’Connell, and Wunmi Mosaku complete the cast. Michael B. Jordan has now acted in all of Ryan Coogler’s five movies, including Fruitvale Station, Creed, and the two Black Panther movies.
