Xavi Simons came back big from his injury as he netted two goals in RB Leipzig’s 4-2 Bundesliga win on Sunday against Werder Bremen.
Former Liverpool head coach and New Red Bull soccer chief Jürgen Klopp was present as he watched the game from the stand when the Dutch playmaker, Xavi Simons, who couldn’t play since October due to his ankle injury, scored the first goal in the 24th minute.
Not too long after the goal from Xavi Simons, Mitchell Weiser equalized for Werder Bremen, but Simons, in his capacity, scored a deflected shot in the 35th minute that returned his side, Leipzig, to the lead.
Xavi Simons told DAZN in an interview that it was fun and nice to be back on the pitch to play while his coach Marco Rose acknowledged his performance, calling it an “extraordinary” comeback that displayed his game-changing talent.
Aside from Simons, Benjamin Šeško scored a long strike, and Christoph Baumgartner scored a late goal to give RB Leipzig the victory, with Oliver Burke scoring a consolation for Bremen.
The win pushed RB Leipzig to the fourth position of the league table, while Bremen, who came into the season with a strong December run, now sit in the 8th position.
Earlier this March, Stuttgart defeated Augsburg 1-0.
