The Russian police raided popular gay bars and nightclubs to arrest suspected gay men as their crackdown on lgbtqia continues following its ban by the Supreme Court amid Putin’s core value on a traditional family setup.
Video that surfaced from the raid showed the police bursting into bars and clubs, rounding people inside up, and making them sit or lie flat on the ground. Several items that might aid the subsequent investigations were also seized during the raid – they include; phones, computers, and cameras. Watch below:
Several top spots, including the Mono bar in Moscow, were raided. The management subsequently issued an apology to its customers saying the taskforce did not find any incriminating evidence in their raid.
Russia is one of the top countries in the world that is totally against LGBTQIA and its propaganda. Last year, its supreme court ruled that the cause was an extremist organization, effectively banning the actualization of the gays, lesbians, and transgender movement.
While making LGBT illegal in Russia, Judge Oleg Nefedov said the pride movement had “signs and manifestations of an extremist nature” and might incite “social and religious discord”.
Following the ban, Russia targets LGBT activists or activities that push for the rights of LGBT people. The ban was applauded by an Orthodox Church representative who saw it as an act of a moral society defending itself
