Inter Miami star Lionel Messi’s eldest son, Thiago, had been featured in his first play in the “Newell’s Cup” tournament in the countryside city of Rosario.
Thiago Messi, like his father, played in the match wearing a No. 10 jersey of an Inter Miami youth team that ended in a 1-0 defeat on Monday to the host side of Newell’s Old Boys in the domestic under-13 competition. The team also had another match on Tuesday.
Thiago played as a starter till the second half before he was substituted. He played alongside Benjamin Suárez, his father’s close friend, Luis Suarez’s son. Luis Suarez is Lionel Messi’s former teammate and close friend at Barcelona.
The father, Lionel Messi, a Ballon d’Or winner, started his football career in the Argentinian club in Rosario, northwest of the capital, Buenos Aires.
Several members of Thiago’s family, including his mother, Antonela Roccuzzo, and his grandparents, Jorge Messi and Celia Cuccittini, were all at the stadium to watch him play while they all sat in the stands.
The former Barcelona legend, his father, who is arguably the best player in the world, always competing with Cristiano Ronaldo, missed Thiago’s debut match.
