Uruguay could not score a goal in their draw against Ecuador at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, despite all the chances being created before the final whistle was blown. The two teams have better chances of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Both teams were at their best when the match commenced, sharing a high tempo that would have made viewers believe that there would be enough goals in the game. Soon after, Uruguay dominated the game courtesy of the brilliant play by Darwin Nunez and Federico Valverde.

Valverde had an opportunity to cause a lead in the 12th minute of the match, but his effort was denied due to an intelligent save by Hernan Galindez. Among those that created good chances are Facundo Pellistri and Maximiliano Araujo, but the Ecuadorian goalkeeper was at his best during the match.

Galindez outdid himself in the first half as Ecuador tried to match their opponent’s strength. Liverpool star Darwin Nunez almost scored a goal before the break with a good effort from the penalty spot, but the attempt could not materialize after it hit the post.

Despite Uruguay being the best side of the two in the first half, Ecuador returned in the second half with a good defense and a well-organized play.

Before the end of the match, Uruguay intensified their game and did all that they could do in search of a winning goal, but those efforts became wasted.
