Antonio Sanabria secured a win for Paraguay after scoring the team’s only two goals against Venezuela in their World Cup qualifier at Estadio Defensores del Chaco ending the match at 2-1.

Venezuela, who visits Paraguay at home for the match, scored the first goal in the 25th minute when Jon Aramburu found the back of the net after he converted a brilliant pass from Yeferson Soteldo.

Paraguay was given a golden chance to equalize through a penalty kick, but Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo frustrated the attempt by Julio Enciso as the keeper saved it.

The game changed at the beginning of the second half when an equalizer was made through a goal scored by Paraguay’s Sanabria. Paraguay’s star scored the goal when he made a brilliant finish from inside the penalty box with an assist from Junior Alonso.

Sanabria became the man who turned Paraguay’s fate around when he raised the scoreline from a draw to a win when he made a not-too-far header that put Romo in a confused state. This goal secured the victory for Paraguay, who have only made 13 points from the 10 matches they have played, placing them ahead of Venezuela, which is currently in third place on the group table.

This win will increase Paraguay’s confidence to do better and win more games as the team battles to feature in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
