Demetrius Big Meech Flenory Moves to Community Confinement After 20 Years in Prison

Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, co-founder of the notorious Black Mafia Family, is transitioning to community confinement after spending nearly two decades behind bars, multiple sources say.

On Tuesday, October 15, he was transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Coleman Low in Florida to a setting overseen by the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ Miami Residential Reentry Management Office, according to Complex. There, he will be allowed to serve the remainder of his sentence in either a halfway house or under house arrest.

In 2005, Big Meech was arrested and sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering operation. The Black Mafia Family, which he co-founded with his brother, Terry Lee “Southwest Tee” Flenory, was involved in drug distribution that reportedly generated around $270 million. The organization was dismantled by the FBI in 2008, leading to multiple arrests.

Earlier this year, a federal judge reduced Big Meech’s sentence by nearly three years, allowing for an earlier release than originally scheduled. He is now expected to complete his sentence by late January, 2026.

The Black Mafia Family gained notoriety for its extensive drug trafficking network, which flourished in the 1990s and had connections to Mexican drug cartels. To launder the proceeds from their illegal activities, the organization established a hip-hop musicthat they called BMF Entertainment.

The story of Big Meech and the Black Mafia Family has remained relevant in popular culture, particularly through the work of rapper 50 Cent. He has produced a successful docuseries and a television series that has garnered attention, featuring appearances from various hip-hop artists.

The series “BMF,” which is available on Starz and Hulu, has finished its third season, and a fourth season has already been approved. Demetrius Edward Flenory Jr., the 24-year-old son of Big Meech, plays the role of his father, Demetrius Flenory, in this adaptation of the Black Mafia Family story.
