After losing to Bournemouth, Arsenal managed to secure a 1-0 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League thanks to an own goal by Shakhtar’s goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk.

This win came after the Gunners lost an embarrassing 2-0 to Bournemouth in the Premier League and its first defeat since April’s Champions League quarterfinal exit against Bayern Munich. Gabriel Martinelli’s effort led to the own goal made by Riznyk in Arsenal’s favor.

The team missed an opportunity to score a second goal because of a penalty kick missed by the taker, Leandro Trossard. At the same time, Riccardo Calafiori could not end the match due to a knee injury that he encountered.

The injury has led to Arsenal having some of his key players on the bench, including Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber, and William Saliba, who are on suspension and will not play against Liverpool in the Premier League.

This match against Shakhtar Donetsk was not convincing, as Declan Rice added that the team’s performance has been reduced due to its defeat against Bournemouth.

It is on record that Gunner’s manager had earlier appealed to his players to put their energy into the game, but the request did not add up as the players performed beyond expectations. Arsenal now has 7 points that it secured from three games in the Champions League, while Shakhtar, winless and goalless, remain at the bottom of their group table after a not-too-easy 17-hour journey to London.
