Luis Diaz scored twice within two minutes in the first half as Liverpool secured a dominant win over Bournemouth at Anfield, returning to form in the Premier League.
Arne Slot’s Bournemouth, coming off a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, thought they had taken the lead early when Antoine Semenyo converted Justin Kluivert’s cross. However, the goal was disallowed by the video assistant referee for offside.
Liverpool quickly responded with intensity, as Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Nunez all came close to scoring. Diaz finally broke the deadlock, rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga and calmly slotting the ball into the net.
Just moments later, Diaz doubled the lead, finishing Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pass by firing the ball through Kepa’s legs from close range. Nunez then made it 3-0 with a brilliant curling shot, marking his first Premier League goal since April.
Federico Chiesa, on his Premier League debut, nearly scored late on, hitting the woodwork, but his effort was ruled offside. Bournemouth, too, were denied by the crossbar in the closing stages.
The win puts Liverpool atop the Premier League, ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal’s upcoming clash.
