Girona comfortably eased through Sevilla in a 2-0 away win, with goals scored by Ivan Martin and Abel Ruiz in Sunday’s La Liga game.
Last season’s surprise package Girona took away the possession dominating the game from early on against a weak Sevilla, who have not won any of their four games to start the season.
Ivan Martin scored the first goal of the game in the 41st minute with an assist that came from Miguel Gutierrez’s cross into the six-yard box.
Ruiz got the victory 17 minutes from time, taking the lead from the penalty arena after a handball that was committed by Sevilla striker Isaac Romero.
The win has pushed Girona to fourth position in the LaLiga table with seven points and five behind Barcelona tops the league, who they will be facing next.
Sevilla is now struggling on the relegation side as they are left second from bottom with only two points that they earned from their two draws, with pressure that is currently being mounted on manager Garcia Pimienta after a disappointing game so far since the season started.
