Just weeks into the new school year, Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, became the site of a horrific mass shooting, leaving four people dead.

Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, is now the site of a horrific mass shooting that left four people dead. On Wednesday, hallways and classrooms became a site of carnage in what is now the 45th school shooting in America this year and the worst of all since last year’s March massacre at The Covenant School in Nashville, where six people lost their lives.

The Georgia shooter is said to be a 14-year-old student who was said to have killed two of his colleagues, including two teachers, with an AR-platform weapon. Nine of those that were affected have been taken to the hospital.

Investigators have given more information about the incident as the community grieves the tragic loss of life.

The attack began when the suspect left his algebra 1 class around 9:45 a.m., according to his classmate, Lyela Sayarath, who spoke to CNN

The 14-year-old student’s classmate said that the shooting started when he left his Algebra 1 class around 9:45 a.m.

Lyela confirmed that the classroom doors were automatically locked, and almost at the end of the class, the suspect banged on the door to come in. When he was not allowed to, the gunman approached a nearby classroom and started shooting and unleashing almost 10 to 15 rounds back-to-back.

One of the school resource officers confronted the shooter, who then surrendered and was taken into custody, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith confirmed.

It was reported that one of the school resource officers faced the shooter, who later dropped the weapon, and he was arrested, according to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith.

Reports have it that the suspect is already being held at Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Centers, and his name is Colt Gray, as says by the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. He will be appearing at the counter on Friday, department spokesperson Glen Allen told CNN.
