Police have launched an investigation into a fatal accident in downtown Indianapolis early Sunday morning that left a man dead.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department mentioned in a statement that officers responded to a personal injury accident that occurred at the intersection of West 10th Street and North Illinois Street around 3:30 a.m.
The police, after responding, noticed that a male passenger was already knocked down by a car. The man was immediately moved to a local hospital in his critical condition, of which he later died due to injuries sustained.
The report also included that the driver who caused the accident was seen at the scene, and he is cooperating with investigators. According to standard protocols that should be carried out in serious accidents, a blood draw will be conducted on the driver to confirm if impairment is the reason for the accident.
It is yet to be known if the driver will be charged in court, as police are yet to disclose his identity or the pedestrian’s identity.
Authorities are also conducting investigations to unravel the cause of the accident.
