Despite Novak Djokovic’s surgically repaired knee, he has not slowed down, as he ultimately reached a Summer Olympics singles final in history, beating Lorenzo Musetti of Italy 6-4, 6-2 last night.
Djokovic is expected to compete with Carlos Alcaraz for the gold on Sunday in a renewed game of the Wimbledon final that occurred between them three weeks ago.
Djokovic, who is not 37 and is from Serbia, is the oldest male player in a men’s singles final at the Olympics, while Carlos Alcaraz, who plays for Spain, is the youngest.
Djokovic is now in his semifinal to compete with Musetti with a 0-3 record in that stage at the match, losing to the eventual champion each time: Rafael Nadal (Beijing), Andy Murray (London), and Alexander Zverev (Tokyo).
Djokovic’s injured knee led the concern into Friday night, in which he felt what he tagged as “sharp pain” while getting over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals on Thursday night. Djokovic had the meniscus knee injury while playing at the French Open in early June and then had surgery in Paris, France.
Djokovic dropped to his back and stayed down on the court with his limbs spread for a few moments when it ended.
